Abstract: Mazingira Institute, an NGO based in Kenya, was requested to prepare a Post-Habitat Evaluation Report on Human Settlement in Kenya and Tanzania. The research objectives were to examine trends and actions since mid 1974 in the area of human settlements and to establish whether or not decisions of the Vancouver Conference have any bearing on these actions. Section I of the report deals with a general description of the system of settlements in the two countries. Section 2-6 deals with various recommendations appearing in the main document of the conference and Section 7 presents the conclusions that emerge from the examination of current government policy and actions, as well as a summarized assesment of the impact of the Vancouver recommendations.
